Common questions
Five that come up on nearly every enquiry.
Root fixing is the strongest and the tidiest above ground, but it needs the surface broken out and a concrete haunch, so it belongs in new work. A base plate suits an existing slab that is sound and at least 150 mm thick. A lockable socket is for anywhere that needs occasional vehicle access. If you are not sure what the substrate is, send a photograph and we will tell you which applies.
Root-fixed bollards are set in a 1:3 cement mortar or concrete haunch, plumbed and left 24 hours before the area is opened. Base plates take four M12 resin anchors, torqued to 40 Nm. Ask us for the fixing detail on the pattern you are specifying.
Our own workers carry out the installation at your site. The bench is set out on a level base; one packed up on a single leg will rock and will eventually crack at the end. Tell us where the bench is going when you order and we will arrange the fitting.
It does not rust and it has no scrap value, which in practice is the reason most buyers move over: a steel or cast iron bollard walks off the site. Concrete is heavy enough to take a knock and stay upright, and a scrape is put right with paint rather than a replacement part.
Weight is the point. A 1800 mm bench is heavy enough to stay where it is put in most settings, and heavy enough that nobody walks off with it. There is no timber to rot and no steel frame to rust, and a scrape is put right with paint rather than a replacement part. It is not the right choice where the bench has to be lifted and moved often.

Red as standard, painted by hand in our own yard. On a bulk order we will finish in any colour you ask for — tell us what you need at enquiry stage.
